Working hard

C's school has come up with a new name for homework "linking our learning" or LOL for short. It makes me laugh on a number of levels - it's still homework whatever it is called and now it's also a joke because it's called LOL! All that said, renaming it has encouraged the teachers to be more creative with their homework ideas. I am very excited that the long complained about and rather pointless 'look, see,cover' spelling has gone :-) It's now a monthly homework grid and they have some compulsory and some to choose from. C spent ages working on a boardgame for helping learn your 6, 7, 8 & 9 times tables. He did more writing of his own accord than he has ever ever done! This LOL isn't being done by p1 so D is still doing 'look, see, cover' spelling but he can spell all the words bar one before he starts so I see it as a writing practise exercise.
This blip is C doing his boardgame plan and C doing a design for a rabbits birthday cake. It captures a difference between them - C has never sat at the table to do colouring while D was happy doing it for ages.
