Never too old for a bucket and spade
At the immense age of 14 years and 5 months, it was hard to get him to bend and join in with the younger pair on the beach. He's never been much of a beach bod, but the acquisition of a bundle of spades and the suggestion that we attempt an ambitions civil engineering project was sufficient for him to start digging.
Instead of grumpiness and teenage mooching, all three and I created a complex series of channels, which was really satisfying for us all.
It turns out that the beaches around Philip Island are heavily populated by purple burrowing crabs, which created extra excitement in the trench digging.
True to my word of not being on holiday, I organised details for a funeral in between playing with my kids.
