Obstruction

This scaffolders' lorry chose a great time to get stuck across the road at the entrance to the one way system past the school:  just as the children were coming out of school at the end of the day.  I'm not sure whether he was leaving the building site or trying to back into it, but he had got himself well and truly embedded in the grass verge.  

As a result neither school buses nor any other vehicles could approach the school.  The buses had to back up to the junction and, with some difficulty, turn around.  The students were directed past the lorry to join the buses at the junction - but then the buses couldn't move because the road was blocked by other vehicles approaching the junction between parked cars.  There was total gridlock.  There were a lot of men in high-vis jackets standing around surveying the chaos!

I should think it took a little while to clear that lot.
