Andy

It was Andy's turn to orgainise our superlative walk today. He planned a route starting at Piccadilly Station, then across the picturesque footbridge into a private area, where photography is restricted by an officious security guard.  Of course, I took some (not very interesting) shots but he must have been on a tea break and sadly did not appear.

The walk then visited several galleries and arts buildings. This blip shows Andy creating some performance art at the Manchester City Gallery, on the internal bridge linking the old building to the extension in what used to be the Atheneaum.

We then visited the Bridgewater Hall briefly, the confusingly named HOME, walked past many of the buildings of Manchester University and Manchester Metropolitan University and then to the recently improved and extended Whitworth Art Gallery, where we had a very substantial and delicious lunch in the new cafe, which is spectacularly set amongst the trees of Whitworh Park.

We then headed back into the Centre, past an absurdly named development site, for a farewell pint at the Lass O' Gowrie.

Andy had found several superlatives for today, which will all be revealed when we finally get around to publishing our walks on our website (currently in its trial phase.) One is highly topical: this statue of Queen Victoria is currently the only public statue in Manchester whose subject is a woman. It has been announced today that, following a public vote, a new statue of Emmeline Pankhurst is to be erected in the City, by 2019.
