Forty Shades of Gray...
Met up with a friend of mine at The Great Swamp NWR, which is about an hour from here. We had hoped to spot a Great Horned Owl that's been seen hanging around the grounds of the Raptor Trust, but no luck. We did, however, enjoy seeing the wonderful work the folks at the RT do to rehabilitate injured raptors. From there, we headed out into the Refuge to see what we could find. The lakes were frozen (as were our toes after a short while) so no ducks, but lots of songbirds flitting around, including four species of sparrows.
Hubs selected this shot - we both like the shades and tones of gray, and I like the serene feeling of it. The bird is a very common winter bird, the dark-eyed junco, a member of the sparrow family. This was shot through a rather dirty window at the Visitor Center, but I like it anyway. There is something about the colors that I find very soothing.
And if you want to see my five other top picks for today, start HERE with the Eye of an Eagle...
This month is racing by ...and I have a significant birthday coming up in less than two weeks... But I also have a great trip to AZ coming up in less than a month - yay!
Hump day, people...
