SOB Waves
We have often experienced large waves on Ixtapa beach, but nothing like what greeted us this morning. Huge waves were pounding the beach, and had been all night according to those staying at the hotel, and washing over most of the courts. In fact, of the 30 nets we had set up (we added one yesterday) on three were actually playable. Over half a dozen had been knocked down. Most of the remainder had lost their boundary lines and were constantly inundated with water, leaving puddles where players normally stand. The conditions required postponement of the morning round, there were simply no courts on which to play. By noon, however, the tide had receded somewhat and we had managed to put 20 of the nets back up, allowing play to commence. Luckily, there was a heavy overcast which kept the temperatures bearable and allowed the tournament to proceed in the middle of the day.
