Portuguese North
While northern Europe gets colder and colder day by day, it is just the opposite way over here. We are abeam of Lisbon right now and the weather is fine. Strong winds from the North, but that is normal here. Most of the time, the wind blows parallel to the Portuguese coast from the North. Dutch sailors used to called it the Portuguese North, not very original but very true. The Portuguese coast is not the only reason for this steady direction, also the position of the so called 'Acores High' pressure area has a lot of influence. It moves up and down with the summer and winter season to the North and to the South, forcing the Atlantic depressions to pass South or North of it.
On the picture you can see a fresh painted Retriever funnel with an inflatable 25 person liferaft in front of it. It is the same as we picked up the day before yesterday. Understand the system now? Throw it overboard, pull the activation line, and your raft will inflate alongside your vessel. This picture was taken with my brand new Ultra Wide 11-16 mm lens. Nice lens for on board.
