God of Thunder....
The storm was still raging in the morning so we delayed our set off for an hour or so, let it settle down.
We left the warm dry hut and headed out into the rain.
Steep slopes and crashing thunder made for some entertaining walking, it seemed to frighten some of the guys and I started to think that they were not as experienced as they made out.
Once above the lower slopes your hair stood on end every time lightening hit the mountain tops, the air, literally electrified. Now wearing full waterproofs and wrapped up against the hail and rain we made our way across steep snow traverses, here my fellow walkers lack of experience really stuck out, they made some basic errors and we had a few lessons in mountain craft from our most excellent guide.
Our first Peak had to be abandoned as it was too dangerous and it turned out for the best as some of the guys were suffering in the cold and their legs hurting from the terrain, could not have done it at all.
The rain continued and every so often you got a view, I was having a wonderful time as I like it a bit on the wild side......
We reached the next hut and were all glad of its warm and friendly setting, wooden interior and homely trappings made for a welcome stop.
Good food and better wine soon had the night finished and were all tucked up in our bunk beds and soon asleep.
