High and dry
Vanessa wanted see Hadrian's Wall, so we headed south this morning, firstly to Kielder dam via Bellingham. Bleak across the moors - very 'Wuthering Heights'!
We stopped for a stroll by the dam. The wind was whipping across Kielder Water, and the little pleasure cruiser, Osprey, was on dry land for winter. Then down to Housesteads, for a walk up past the Roman Fort to the Wall, and on to Milecastle 37. Not far, but affording good views.
Then back to the car and on to Steel Rigg - getting too dark to walk far but, again, some good views of the wall (even in the gloom).
Nice meal at the Twice Brewed Inn to finish off the day. Not sure about Vanessa's vege meal, though - not convinced that tarte tatin of onion, tomato and mozzarella with a salad garnish is perfectly complemented by roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and winter vegetables...
