A penny
I found this penny yesterday in the street. It reminded me of the joke about the Scotsman who dropped one in the street in Edinburgh and was trampled to death in the scramble that followed to pick it up.
It also got me thinking. Why do we still have this coin in circulation?
Because I cannot think of anything that you can buy today for one penny. When I was a child there were all sorts of things a penny would buy - a gobstopper, or a packet of fizz, but now the coin is really redundant I feel and not really worth the cost of producing.
The Queen does not look very happy on it - does she? I reckon she shares my opinion!
