Victoria Bridge
Today's the day ......................... to repair
Thank goodness the prospect of possible flooding anew in Kendal last night, did not happen.
But I wonder how long it will take before we all stop being anxious when high rainfall is forecast? This is the Victoria Bridge in Kendal which is closed at present as a result of the December floods. For a while, it was at least open to one-way traffic - but when the divers went down to assess the damage, they found that not just one, but two of the underwater pillars had been undercut by the flood water and were in a very precarious state. So the whole thing was closed off - even to pedestrians - and you can imagine the chaos that followed. To get across the river, you now have to go to the next bridge down. The traffic is funnelled into a bottle-neck and the result is end-to-end stationary queues in the town.
Work is going on to dredge out the Kent to make it deeper and able to cope with more water as you can see in the extra. But it's a slow job when a night of rainfall can still produce an impromptu lake practically anywhere ........................
PS Thank you all so much for the stars and hearts you gave me yesterday on my big day. I spent the entire day, feeling ridiculously proud/happy/special as a result! Thank you.
