From Across the Pond...

Thanksgiving!

And a week early, which was fine by me. Norton and Jane (native South African, least likely candidate in the world to adopt an American holiday) have been holding Turkey Day in their house since they moved in in 2000, and every year they add more and more friends to the event. Lindsey and I made the cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes, and apart from a few strange interruptions (par for the course when you do a thirty-person pot luck) the buffet was the real deal. Norton also appointed me to give a little Thanksgiving spiel for the non-Ricans, so I got to say a few words about that first winter in Plymouth, Squanto... that old chestnut. For the first time in my life, I bragged about living twenty minutes from the source of the day-after open-face turkey sandwich!

Pictured here are Norton, Jane, Lindsey, Wendy (volunteer, social worker from Holland), and Nicolas (another volunteer, owns a factory in China).
