Terrifying
That is listening to the rubbish spouted by our politicuans.
I have just delivered this girn on Face Book after hearing an article on Radio Scotland tonight:
Just heard something on the radio about a suggested bedroom tax for tourists; an extra pound per bed night. Apparently this idea is to "raise" revenue.
I travel regularly around the Highlands with my work and have to lodge over night; mostly in places trying to pander to tourists. While there are many that offer excellent service and quality (and by quality I am not talking room service and silver teapots) some are absolutely grim and run in a unwelcoming manner.
I would suggest a much better way to increase revenue is to encourage more visitors to return again by offering better service, value and quality.
The suggestion on the radio (is typical of the nonsense thought up by bureacrats who have never been in the real world) will only serve to diminish even more the negative experience of those tourists and ensure they never return.
I tendered for a small job up north before Christmas. In assembling the fee I got a price for a single room at a local hotel. I have now been instructed to proceed and today on calling the lodgings was advised that I would have to take a double room at double the price (the singles were all taken). I am still eating one breakfast, using one bed, will not consume anymore eletricity or heating. To some degree I can understand the logic of a single occupancy premium in high season but certainly not double price in February. The proprietors are entitled to take their own commercial view on bookings. I never haggle as there are two choices. Ironically I have now booked in at a more upmarket place that is only marginally more expensive than the original single room tariff. If I now really like the second choice establishment I am likely to go back again given the soured experince with the first hotel.
Good idea; avoid repeat business by pricing too high for first time business.
Anyway as with listening to the politicians I have given up patience with Photoshop again tonight. In light of the proposed new tax I think I will just camp at the roadside next time I need to stay away overnight. This is my cooker in case you are wondering, and you were supposed to see it hanging magically in fresh air with its shadow against the wall.
