Today's the day .......................... to shelter

This impressive building - that looks a bit like an alien spaceship - is actually an 18th century Grade II listed deer shelter.

It is to be found in the 190 acre deer park of the Dallam Tower Estate near the village of Milnthorpe about 10 miles to the south of Kendal.  It is shown on the estate map dated 1799 - but not on the earlier 1733 one - so it must have been built at some time between the two.

Most of the park is down to pasture - and it still supports a herd of fallow deer ...........................
