Today's the day .......................... to lift

This enormous crane suddenly appeared one day in Kendal - or at least, that's how it seemed to me.

I've no idea how it got here.  Presumably it was all in bits and then they built it on site like a meccano set.  But if that's what happened, they built it very quickly.  And ever since, it's been working away, swinging round in a huge arc and lifting impossibly heavy loads.

And what's more, all around it now there are new houses and apartment blocks that have also appeared practically overnight.  It's all a bit overwhelming in this sedate little town.

Ah well - that's progress for you .............................
