The Tunnel

I finished my book on the bus into work (I ducked out of cycling - too wet) so I visited Waterloo Library at lunchtime to borrow a new one. Waterloo isn't my local library, but it is in my borough so thankfully I can use it with no problems. I got chatting to the librarian about my local library. Tonight the council have agreed to cut it by 34 percent. It's currently sitting in a temporary space while the library building is being made safe after aspestos was found in the roof. This was found because thieves had stolen the copper from the roof (for a second time) and the roof had leaked, flooding the library. The electricians replacing the defunct wiring drilled holes into the ceiling, thus discovering the aspestos. This was, ooh, more than a year ago now. The librarian at Waterloo said that the West Norwood staff were now employed elsewhere and staffing levels were very low across the borough so staffing a larger West Norwood library (i.e. the original building) could prove problematic. I hope the library reopens soon in its old home (ironically its current home is in the Victorian building that used to house the library, but in a tiny space compared to the modern library building). There's talk of a cinema going in the old building, too, in the Nettlefold Hall adjoining the library, which isn't a bad thing for the community. For a bonus West Norwood fact, Nettlefold Hall is where the 're-education' scenes in "A Clockwork Orange" were filmed.

Back to lunchtime, and with a new library book to read on my journey home, I came across The Tunnel, which was a complete surprise, but a lovely and colourful one. I could spent hours looking at all the art here. It's certainly a source of good blipportunities, even on a rainy day.
