Victoria Falls

The Falls.  Today was my second visit and that first glimpse of them is utterly breath-taking.  How the hell Livingston found them will forever confound me and how they built a bridge across to Zambia makes my little mind turn inside out, especially when it was manufactured in England.

The picture is taken on the exact spot that we had a picture taken two years ago and is one of our favourite snaps.

We were followed around the falls by a group of Japanese tourists, complete with selfie-sticks for every photo opportunity.  You walk along the edge of the falls and generally bump into the same people as you go along as you’re essentially following each other.  Last visit, we met a delightful American chap who had lost his wife and spent a great deal of time travelling and seeing all he could of the world.

In a wonderfully African approach to health and safety, there are very few barriers of any kind between the path and the edge of the Falls, especially at one point towards the end when the path becomes very close and you realise that stray very far and you are literally standing on the edge of a very, very high drop.  Seeing people go near it is enough to make you shake with nerves.
