Belated Fireworks

I found blue food coloring at the market...amazing what they have on the low shelves, behind boxes, and under a layer of dust. So we were able to make a Fourth of July cake. I love the way they came out looking like fireworks!

We divided the white cake batter into three bowls, added red food coloring to one and blue to another. Then we poured the batter into the pan in layers so each slice of cake was marbled red, white, and blue. It was quite beautiful, and everyone was pretty impressed.

We were saved, once again, by the fact that no one here knows or cares what day we are really supposed to be celebrating. :)
