Duck Pond Market
The intriguingly named Duck pond Market in Ruislip has caught on in a big way.
It all began eight years ago with a Farmers Market held in the grounds of Manor Farm just at the bottom of the town’s High Street, near the aptly named Duck Pond.
Today it was a Foodies’ Market where you could get a variety of speciality cooked foods from a variety of stalls both inside and outside the Grade 11 listed building , the Great Barn which has become home for the market.
But it’s something of a festival as well with live music — today it was a choir — face painting, an area specially allowing children to pet animals — from rabbits, to young goats and pigs.
Organsers say the food stalls get their ingredients from local suppliers and each time I’ve been it seems remarkably popular. And increasingly so, that there are now similar markets in the vicinity.
One attraction at Ruislip are the huge communal tables inside the barn which provide a constructive play area for youngsters, as well as a place to sit and eat food, or simply read the Sunday papers.
Oh yes, and the art gallery alongside, is always worth a visit.
