The lake

Following a reasonable if not a tad chilly nights sleep, I cooked us up a full english breakfast on the stove and supplied Nicky, much to her delight, with endless freshly brewed and frothed cappuccinos.

Last night we had agreed a walk around Derwentwater would be lovely as the weather was tricky for a hill walk (and non of us felt physically fit enough for such an undertaking). And so we all climbed into my little 500 and headed to Keswick. A quick call to Fenner, who runs around the lake when we are up here, was rather informative as he provided us with the length of the walk, which I had said was between five and seven miles though turned out to be ten. The girls were not discouraged though neither were they impressed. I of course was suppressing giggles.

We had a great time though. OK, we only managed a third of the way, stopping at the first pub we came to, Nicky grabbed the bus back to town and Victoria and I trundled back. Had a lovely catch up and was rewarded on our return to a blissfully happy Nicky sat beside a roaring fire in the Red Lion on the high street. All in all it was a seven mile round trip, mainly due to the footpaths being destroyed by the floods and us having to take extended routes around the shore line.

We headed back to our hut in the woods, took a rather worrying detour in the dark and rain, stoked up the fire and settled down to an amazing meal from Nicky and another wonderful evening.

All three of us went to bed warm and happy, thinking of Buzz Aldrin in a his tight red shorts. And slept very well indeed.
