Alco Hole
Woke up quite early this morning as we were leaving Kochi to move to our next stop ? Munar. Felt very pleased with ourselves as the Tummy Gods had been kind to us and we had both not a single rumble after our very ?local? meal last night!
Began our drive to Munar, thorough lots of fields of rubber trees and began the winding road up and up to the high range of where the tea plantations would meet us. The weather was starting to close in a bit now so by the time we arrived it was quite misty. Our hotel (The Windermere) was a lovely converted farmhouse with converted farmers? cottages. It had a lovely 360 degree view of the plantations from a view point up the top.
We headed into to town in search of another local meal and stumbled upon another very good spot?.again we were stared at but managed to have the biggest paper dosa I have ever seen. Food was lovely and we ate off banana skins and are totally down with the whole only eating with the right hand thing!
After we fancied getting a bottle of wine to take back to the hotel so we headed to the one ?government supplies? shop that sold alcohol. It was a very entertaining experience. This was a small shack that was bar-ridden outside and in; and had a huge queue of men streaming in at the ?in? entrance to buy a beer or five. Once we appeared the owner signalled to Paul to bypass the queue and come straight to the front (quite embarrassing!) so he did and we ordered a very dusty bottle of Indian wine and a couple of Kingfishers. When we got home we had a sniff of the Indian wine and then reverted to the trusty ?Kingfisher? which was much much better!
