Krishna Cafe

Today we had a tour of Kochi with our very talkative guide ?George? so far he wins the prize for being the most controlling as he was keen to tell us where to stand, where to photo, where to eat, where to shop?as you can imagine we both really enjoyed that! Anyhow we took in some really interesting sights that included the St. Francis Church, the Chinese Fishing Nets and the oldest synagogue in India. Early evening we then headed to a cultural spot to catch a Kathakali performance ?tourist style?. This was very colourful with all the costumes and makeup ? dancing was lovely and we had a very impressive matial arts display too.

After all this tourist overload we ended the day by getting a rickshaw to a quieter part of town to eat at the Krishna Café ? a pure vegetarian very local restaurant. This was brilliant and our first experience of eating out in proper S.India style. Even Paul commented that this was the most ?local? he had ever tried! We were the only tourists there and were stared at constantly throughout like some sort of attraction to the other diners. We ordered a Puri plate and a dosa plate?.and with a quick spray of antiseptic wash to my hands I said a quick prayer to the ?God of Tourist Tummy?s? and hoped for the best.

It all tasted great, particularly the chutneys which were exploding with flavour. The bill came to a grand total of 65 Ruppees which was staggering considering that that?s less than a £.
