MeriRand & the NW Passage

Day of Harvest

The hot weather has worked miracles for the corn, though we could definitely use rain. Here my friends (those who spent the night after yesterday's festivities) are helping my mom to make some harvests and control the pests in the garden. We picked a massive amount of raspberries and blueberries along with some broccoli. Mom was happily smushing potato bugs (the easiest and most fun to murder- stained fingers and all).

We sat in the yard talking most of the day, moving our chairs around the walnut tree to follow the path of the sun. When it got too hot, we swam. When we got hungry we ate. A few friends wandered home but a handful decided to spend one night more, so we made a huge, delicious pizza (with over a pound of meat and arugula and olives) and watched a strange movie on sheep herding in MT. It was a very peaceful day, only punctuated briefly by plans for the week which were becoming increasingly complex to orchestrate.
