Just behind me the sky was dark with the approaching sleet which put an end to the hope for a sunny day after a promising dawn. The last glimmer of sun highlighted the wind sculpted sandstone on the circular Old Harbour Light contrasting with the octagonal cast-iron New Lighthouse built in 1869. Now the light is no longer needed at the entrance to the once important Newhaven Harbour since it has become dwarfed by the nearby Western Harbour and Leith Docks.
