Motueka Wharf 100 Years

The book has been launched. Fifteen months in the researching and writing  the book was launched exactly 100 years to the day after it was opened in 1916.
A committee of eleven have worked hard with author Carol Dawber to publish the history. 176 pages of photographs with captions. Fully indexed.
It has been a long day.
Launch day started with gazebos and trestles being put up with bunting at 8am. Books delivered about 10am. Food and drink delivered 12noon.People arrived from 1pm.
A folk group played sea shanties and a specially composed song. The last harbourmaster when the wharf closed in 1968 spoke and then the author herself.
Then they lined up to buy their books. About 200 people attended and about that many books sold. These were the people who had so kindly loaned us their photos, shared their memories of working on the wharf, fishing from the wharf, boating out of the harbour. As well as many interested folk from Nelson, Richmond, Tapawera and Golden Bay.
It was hot with a slight sea breeze but they hung in there to get their copies.
I had to take this photo when I got home. Not wonderful, more a record.
Extras are flags a kind boat club member put up and part of the crowd.
