After the snowfall
It snowed all of yesterday afternoon and most of the night. We woke up to thick mist and could barely see anything outside the window - as can be seen in my extra photo (the other extra was taken much later when the mist was lifting). A friend texted me and suggested meeting for coffee in the village, and so I walked down the hill being very careful not to slip on the ice. At about midday the mist started lifting and there was some sunshine, so Thomas and Gavin went up the mountain to ski while I went for a walk as the visibility on top of the mountain was still inconsistent. I had fun taking photos of the misty mountains, which can be seen here on Flickr if you are interested.
Hopefully I will get up the mountain tomorrow as Thomas and three of his friends are doing a ski marathon for a local ski club - they have to ski a maximum distance in a given time of 5 hours. It is quite a strategic race as one needs to plan which runs to do to get maximum distance with minimum delays at the ski lifts. Two years ago Luke and Adam did it together and won, but Thomas and his friends don't want to take it seriously and so instead of sitting down and planning their route they are now out for waffles instead! One of the girls skiing with him comes from a family of very successful ski racers (her sister skied for GB) and she did attempt to get the boys to take it more seriously but they convinced her to rather enjoy it and to forget about winning!
It has closed in again now and I am going to relax with a cup of mint tea and my very enjoyable book, The Green Road by Anne Enright.
