Cordobese Dereliction

Cordoba Day 4: Balconies and Patios
 
We came across the remains of this derelict building during today’s exploration of Cordoba.  I rather like the weeds growing at first floor level, which give the impression of a window box.  The detail of the brickwork, the remains of the shutters and door, and the window bars all provide additional interest.  As you can see, there is not much left behind the façade – the roof has gone completely. 
 
I had to crop the bottom of the shot, as someone had inconveniently parked in exactly the wrong spot!
 
It has been cold here today (just below freezing first thing), surprisingly chilly, although the sun has been shining and if you can find a sheltered spot it is really very pleasant.  We’ve been very lucky in our choices of bars and restaurants, until this lunchtime.  The place we had earmarked was shut and we foolishly chose a tapas bar near the tourist centric Mezquita area.  Ah, well, I guess that evens up the averages!  We should have known better :-) 
 

Cordoba has a thing for patios.  My extra is a shot of one particular patio framed by a window. These little oasis of calm are a delight, although it is a little early in the year to be seeing them in their full glory.  Later, when the Summer sun becomes unrelentingly hot the shade offered by the orange trees, the softly splashing fountains and water rills will be perfection itself.
