(B)RING OUT THE OLD
I rediscovered this while looking for something else today. About 50 years ago in another country far away my Mum found this at the bottom of 7-year-old sister A's school bag. A denied all knowledge of it; the school investigated; the police investigated; lots of advertising was done. It was a small primary school serving an RAF station in the Far East so it should have been easy to track down the owner but nobody claimed it. Eventually, after several months the police returned it to my mother and said she could keep it and she gave it to me as I was the eldest (ha!) and all of 15 years old. We think it's an Edwardian dress ring with a little chip of ruby (it's redder than it looks here) surrounded by seed pearls in a pretty raised setting, made for daintier fingers than mine. Perhaps it's time for me to pass it to the next generation… maybe the daughter of my sister who brought it home in the first place!
