Ships' Graveyard, Montevideo Uruguay
We arrived in the city of Montevideo this afternoon, after sailing up the Rio de la Plata from Punta del Este last night. As we entered the port, we passed the most astonishing conglomeration of ruined vessels all herded together, listing, sinking, rusting, and breaking apart in unison. Quite a sight!
We took a walking tour of the old part of the city, and quite enjoyed it. There are many beautiful old buildings with lovely architectural details and beautiful, ornate ironwork. Many of them are in a state of disrepair, but lots are being renovated too. I imagine in about ten years, this city will once again be lovely.
Extra photo shows two Montevideo "abuelas" looking down rather disapprovingly upon the street scene below. When I waved to them, they just stared at me!
