Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus)
Last photograph from the beautiful island of Masirah. These Oystercatchers make a colourful sight with their bright orange beaks, red eyes and black and white plumage and is probably my favourite photograph to end a superb half term trip. Masirah is the perfect Desert island, the population is just over 12,000 inhabitants, but they are mostly at the main town of Hilf. There are lots of Bedouin encampments across the island but in relatively small numbers. There are trees on the island (Palm and other types)but not a huge amount, as the land is mostly sand and rock, although there are more around the area of Sur Masirah, but there are not that many and there is a small island of mangroves, this is where the Collared and common Kingfisher live and we will have to get a boat across to see them-hopefully next time! Many thanks for all your kind comments, hearts and stars.
