Hedgehope from Threestoneburn
After Louie's morning walk, MrM and I set off without him - in the hope of spotting at least one or two red squirrels at Threestoneburn Wood. We started from Harthope Valley (extra shows view down the valley with the sea in the far distance) and walked up to Housey Crag before heading towards the wood over an unpleasant amount of bog and heather moorland. Very hard-going in places!
We didn't see any squirrels, but did come across a quite a large stone circle - we counted 12 stones in all, but there may be more (the three largest shown in an 'extra'). After a short stop for food and coffee we walked back via a slightly different route, and managed to avoid most of the heather. A splendid rainbow appeared as we crossed the moors in strengthening wind and intermittent light rain.
Home to tea and toast...
