White Castle
It was a lovely afternoon so I took a 45 minute drive to White Castle to grab an aerial photograph of it. I was the only person there, not even a warden, and felt like King of the castle, albeit for only a quarter of an hour. There's normally a charge from April to November, but outside of these months you can just wander around.
White Castle islocated 1 mile north of the village of in Llantilio Crosenny, Monmouthshire, South Wales near the B4233 between Monmouth and Abergavenny.
Known as one of the “Three Castles” with Grosmont and Skenfrith, there has been a defensive structure at the site since the late eleventh century. The castle was originally called Llantilio Castle (1186), after Llantilio Crossenny, the medieval manor of which it was a part. The name "White Castle" was first recorded in the thirteenth century, and was derived from the whitewash put on the stone walls. The castle ruins are Grade 1 listed as at 19 November 1953.
The blip photo is a slightly overhead view of the castle and it's perimeter that shows you the moat and it's defensive structure.
