No rain ....
...so we went out for a walk this evening to Bracklinn Falls.
It always seems to be the case that we don't often visit what is right on our doorstep and it has been many years since I have visited the falls. I had fogotten how spectacular they can be.
In 2004 flash floods swept away the original iron bridge that spanned the falls. Designed using locally sourced larch and four 12 mtr long Douglas Fir trunks, the present bridge was constructed on site over a 6 month period and was winched by hand across the gorge on a temporary steel track. Built 0f timber and copper at a cost £110,000, it weighs 20 tonnes.
Formally opened in 2010 the new bridge received a highly commended award at the International Footbridge Awards in 2011.
This photo was taken from the top of the falls looking down the gorge.
In an attempt to lose some weight I have decided to walk more so expect more pics of the falls over the next 4 weeks before I go off on a long awaited 3 week holiday.
