Great Northern Diver

I'd been told by a friend that there was a Great Northern Diver (Gavia immer) at Salford Quays (on the old Manchester Ship canal), so went out in search of him this morning. Took a while to go through the basins and linking canals but eventually found him - a lifer, so I was chuffed. Seemed happy with his new home, but by all accounts (local birders) is all alone there. Still, I guess he won't go hungry.
