Fennel time

The wild fennel is just beginning to flower along the edges of the vineyards - great for collecting flowers and later seeds for using in cooking. I wish I could add sound to this image because the noise from the cicadas in the trees behind the vines was quite overpowering! It was the same in all the vineyards and scrubby areas of garrigue between here and Fouzilhon where we went looking for piles of uprooted vines so that we can collect souches for the meshwi (whole lamb roast - sorry, vegetarians!) we're planning for our party in a couple of weeks' time. We found some and their owner and got permission to take them; so the next stage will be to take the trailer up there for them.
