Stonehaven War Memorial
Reasonable day today and I just enjoyed my holiday.
Still tidying, de-cluttering the house. My wife had fun sorting out her cupboards, greatly enhanced by the arrival of her Sheldon Shirt Folder, for those of you that watch Big Bang Theory a real joy.
Quick photo from just off the coast road south of Stonehaven.
Last part of the road into town is closed due to landslip.
Hardly surprising considering the weather in the last few weeks.
Stonehaven's War Memorial is a particularly noticeable monument, standing on top of the Black Hill just south of the town. It is often thought of as being in a poor state of repair but this is the way it was designed to look - as unfinished or ruined as the lives of those it commemorates. ?It was designed by John Ellis, an architect from Aberdeen who designed quite a few notable houses in the Northeast as well as some other war memorials.
I processed photo as black and white to maintain the composition as it was very green. Although the light clouds in the top which worked well in colour are quite distracting. However, when I cropped out the top edge, the sky just looked as if it had been burned in, rather than natural.
Light can be so fickle, process it in and it works .
Capture it straight out the camera and it looks manufactured.
