JAPANESE GARDEN & GRASS TREE TRUNK

The nearby botanical garden has a Japanese garden with neatly sculpted shrubs, a pond, a small waterfall and pond lanterns.
In other parts of the  outside garden I saw the exposed trunk of the 'black boy' grass tree, proper name Xanthorrhoea Australis. [Sounds like a dread disease!]  The politically incorrect name was given because of the often blackened trunk that had survived a bush fire. The trunk is hollow and when exposed it flakes away into these chunks that resemble the Mohawk hair styles. [Remember those?...so very '70s.]
