Ex Caliber

I saw this sword hilt in the moat at Whittington Castle. As it is lying in an historic place, I wondered if The Lady of the Lake had returned to offer the sword to a successor to King Arthur (of the legend). Perhaps it met with an accident and is now an ex-Caliber!
