Amazing Grace
On July 1st we, as a family, will make a pilgrimage to Albert in northern France. We will visit the site of the Battle of the Somme on the occasion of its 100 year anniversary. Our Grandad, Charlie Heseltine was wounded in no man's land on the first day and was there for three days. He was rescued and subsequently spent eighteen months recovering in hospital. We thought it would be nice to recognise the sacrifice made by grandad, the Bradford Pals Regiment and indeed all those who endured so much.
My cousin has organised a football match in the Albert stadium, a rerun of the 1911 final, Bradford City v Newcastle United. I don't think I'll be taking part but my contribution will be a rendition of "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes during the small remembrance service we have organised as part of the occasion. Wish me luck! Much practice is called for.
