Redshanks

Today's the day ........................... to wade

These waders couldn't be anything other than redshanks - could they?

Their red legs were glinting in the sun as they poked and prodded the mud of the Wyre Estuary at Knott End, looking for dainty morsels to eat for their tea.  It was bitterly cold watching them - although it didn't seem to bother them.  The sun was shining in a clear blue sky but there was a biting wind that froze your fingers, ears, nose and any other bit of you that was exposed to it.

The extra shot is a statue to celebrate another frequent visitor to this part of the country in the 40s and 50s.  L S Lowry, the painter of matchstick men etc used to stand here and paint the little ferry and its occupants - that goes from Knott End across to Fleetwood.....................
