Waiheke Island

Today we got a ferry over to Waiheke island to do a wine tour- of course we didn't really have a choice as Waiheke is known as the 'island of wine'. The views of the island are magnificent- consisting of olive groves, vineyards and coastal scenery. We went to 3 wineries altogether, the first one was called 'Peacock sky' where we tasted different food to compliment each wine, including spring rolls, meatballs and their amazing chocolate brownie. They specialise in Bordeaux wines, but we got to try a wide range of both red, white and bubbly. Their wineries are so successful due to their unique soil- created after a river bed exploded during an earthquake.
It was a great day and of course we are now wine connoisseurs!
