Diary of an Edinburgher

Lunch al fresco

Tricked Archie by setting the alarm for an hour later this morning, so he was awake for ages in his bed in the hallway, but didn't budge till he was supposed to. I didn't take him out till about 9am - and that was since 3.30pm the day before. What a bladder!

An hour or so of a lovely sunny morning was spent out in the sun in the front garden. He loves sitting on a lap, just watching the world going by, with the occasional grump if the passers by are noisy/small/scuffing their feet or - heaven forbid! - they try to deliver the post.

We spent a while deciding where to go. A drive, a dog walk and something to eat were the simple requirements. Bearing in mind it was Good Friday and everywhere would be mobbed. We ended up - yes - going up the Hill then driving to the Salisbury Arms (dog friendly, with parking).

Well, apart from a 50 minute wait for our meals, there was a big group of several families with young children right beside us. The adults sat at one end and ignored the children, who were squealing and shouting and playing games. Right beside us. Poor wee Archie was stoical - not a peep or a grump slipped out. Unlike myself, who grumped and harrumphed until we eventually gave up and moved outside. Luckily, it was warm enough.

I think well behaved dogs are much more acceptable in restaurants than children who are allowed to disturb those around them (ie badly behaved). But don't get me started...
