On a Vist to Ōnuku
Back Blip from Akaora ..
All day it looked as if it may rain.. but it didn't thank goodness. Ōnuku is a short drive from Akaora Village.
The pears looked wonderful but I had no change on me to buy some.
In my extra shots you can see the small church on the Onuku Maori reserve near Akaroa. Completed in 1878 the church was planned to accommodate sixty people and though primarily for the Maori local, Pakeha settlers were also welcome.
A plain timber building with steeply pitched shingle roof its religious purpose is denoted by the tiny bell turret and surmounting crosses. It is picturesquely set in the bay on Akaroa Harbour and is enclosed by a delightfully unregimented picket fence.
The other shot is looking towards Akaora just near the Wharenui, Karaweko (meeting house) on the Onuku marae.
