Down on the Marsh
Went down to Dungeness this afternoon for fish and chips with Doreen. I have to report that they were not as good as I was expecting; the fish was overcooked and mushy and the chips lacked the golden brown crunchiness you expect of chips. I've put it as an extra. It's unusual as the fish has always been good there in the past and although the chips have been acceptable they've never quite hit the mark. Not like the Mermaid in Hastings Old Town, fish is always wonderful there and the chips in a different league.
Dungeness is a fascinating place, flat shingle, expansive skies, an eclectic mix of holiday places all dominated by a huge brooding nuclear power station. A mix of desolation and civilisation, of warmth and cold and remnents of past activities including, no doubt, smuggling.
This trip was the last event before departure tomorrow. Went to the gym first thing, lost a little more weight but only just, so I may be stabalising now then did the last few bits of preparation and packing. All systms go although the weather is forecast to be particulalry nasty just at the time we are due to take off, stong gusty winds and heavy rain as the A380 Airbus lifts into the sky.
