Pacific Coast Highway

What a day!

We started in Lompoc, CA, with a trip to the hotel pool which ended in disaster as Heather took a chunk out of her front tooth on the pool floor. Cue some frantic phone calls but apparently dentists don't work on Sundays in CA.

We eventually went north, driving the Pacific Coast Highway - it started off fairly tamely, then it went REALLY wild. What an incredible road!! Mountains, canyons, sea, sand, surf, AMAZING!! I'd checked out a couple of earthcaches along the way, so we stopped at some fascinating places.

One good thing that came out of the delayed start was lunch at Port Luis pier - the most amazing seafood! We sat at a glass-topped table that looked down beneath the pier, right on top of a muckle big starfish. Steamed clams, sourdough bread rolls, cippolino with all manner of seafood, local white wine. Incredible!!!!!

Continued up the coast, arriving eventually at Monterey, via Redwoods, coastal waterfalls, and more incredible views. Hotel two blocks from Cannery Row and the Aquarium in Monterey, and staying still for five days - twice the length of anywhere since Nashua!
