Wish a Wish!
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, and so with gritted teeth I joined the swarm of tourists making their way up to the castle in the hope of finding the plaque marking the spot where women considered to have unusual powers were burned at the stake as witches in the 15th and 16th centuries.
I did find it at the foot of the Castle Esplanade, but having decided not to use it, found this foot instead belonging to David Hume the 18th century Scottish philosopher on his statue outside the High Court.
What he would have thought of being in the same toe fetish department as Fergie , the ex Duchess of York, I can only guess.
Certainly, the rubbing and wishing practised by the itinerant hopeful have created very shiny toes protruding from his toga.
Had this habit been noticed back in the 16th Century, then there might have been more custom for the witch burning sessions.
Secretly, I did rub and wish a wish and my extra image is the result!
