Day 89 of 366 - Caludon Castle remains!
Today's image was taken in the Wyken area of Coventry. It is a view of the remains of the Grade I listed Caludon Castle. The original site was occupied from at least the time of Lady Godiva in the 11th century until about 1815. After the Norman conquest of England in 1066 the land and property passed from Godiva to the Earl of Chester. Up until the beginning of the 14th Century the property on the site was known as a Manor house. In 1305 the Manor was re-styled as a castle. The castle and lands have passed through various families over the centuries. The castle being rebuilt on several occasions. One of the more notable and powerful families to own the site were the Berkeley's. Having owned the site from about 1490 until 1613. The Berkeley family now reside in another great country house Berkeley Castle in County of Gloucestershire. It is said that Shakespeare's play 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' was commissioned to celebrate a Berkeley wedding. Unfortunately for Caludon Castle after the Berkeley family moved on, the castle fell into disrepair and was all but destroyed during the mid 1660's.
The photo was taken using the App ExposerGL on my iPhone 6.
First I used the app Snapseed to edit the image. I cropped the image and then applied the Tonal Contrast preset. I then applied a little extra warmth and saturation to the picture. Next I used the app Brushstroke to add the Oil 05 paint style to the image. I then changed the canvas type to Cold Press. Finally I used PhotoToaster to add the Warm Preset, the Vibrant FX. I then added the Canvas texture and the Burlap frame.
