Sad News
Yes, the stock of Limoncino has eventually dried up. There is possibly one more taster remaining in the bottle, and that will be it.
Well for the time being.
It was back in November that I decided a bottle would make an early Christmas pressie for my wife, though I doubted it would last till the end of the month, yet alone to Christmas.
It didn’t. But fortunately our friendly German owned supermarket kept up the stock until last week.
Oh yes, quite a few bottles of the lemon flavoured Italian liquor have passed our way since November
Doesn’t really matter whether you call it Limoncello or Limoncino — the name differs according to which part of Italy it comes from. Yet either way it is mainly from the area around Naples and Sorrento, and gets its distinctive flavour from its prime ingredient, other than alcohol, the zest of lemon.
I suppose I should be thankful that out local supermarket had supplies up until last week. I had also been buying it from another branch of the same company in north London, and that one ran out several weeks ago.
In the meantime, our local one still had bottles on the shelf , and for the last two weeks even reduced the price.
Naturally I took advantage of that. Well, rival supermarkets which stock the liquor were charging twice the price. And more.
But, a sad day when I returned home with the news that stocks had eventually dried.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the company is staging another Italian promotion!
