Stunning
In general I am not fond of cactus plants grown indoors, but I can make an exception for the Easter cactus.
That’s because of its stunning crimson flowers which are just beginning to show in a starburst formation.
At night they revert to tight buds, but during the day when they open up they are eye-catching with an astonishing array of flower.
The blooms when open are quite large and certainly create a striking focus to any room.
Though native in the wild to the southern part of Brazil they appear to thrive here as house plants, and gain their name from the time they come into flower, usually in April or early May.
And this variety appears to need fairly regular watering, certainly when they are in flower, although the experts advise me not to touch them for a month when the flowers die off, save keeping the soil moist, but in effect allowing the plant to rest.
In the wild this type of cacti grows on trees or rocks, so it is re-assuring to see them survive as a potted household plant.
Again, cacti are not my favourite household plant, but I am hoping my crossed fingers are green enough to e]keep this one to live on.
