I found them
Not the actual ones I blipped on Tuesday but the same variety a stage further on. The caps have come off these ones and they are waiting for a raindrop to hit them and spill them out. See here for explanation.
I am pretty sure they are the white birdsnest fungi as opposed to the brown because there was an unopened one at the other end of the stick.
These are tiny. The spores or eggs are as big as a pin head.
I do have a story to tell against Pat and myself. On Tuesday we thought we might take the stick home to show Trev and put in the garden. We put it under a tree by the path and walked on for 10 minutes. On our return we couldn't find the stick. It was meant to stay there.
